Quarantine
It started off when President John F. Kennedy was alerted that surveillance drones had taken many pictures of Cuba. Analysts at the CIA uncovered that what the drones had taken pictures of were Soviet Missile silos. This greatly unnerved the Americans as it placed any part of the U.S. within range of a Soviet Nuclear attack. Discussions began among st the people in the white house on how to respond to the challenge. Only two foreseeable options were given to the president. An air strike and invasion, or a naval quarantine with the threat of further military action. In the end President JFK chose to quarantine Cuba not allowing the Soviets to bring any more supplies in to Cuba. This greatly aggravated the Soviets and they were even closer to pulling the trigger on the nukes. This was because of the fact that a naval blockade was considered an act of war due to international waters law. However Kennedy had faith that the USSR would not launch their missiles over a measly blockade, and he was right. Although Khrushchev was greatly displeased with the blockade, all he did was send a letter to the U.S. informing them a that this at could cause an all out nuclear war.
